Hermes Arroyo was born in San Miguel
de Allende, México. As a dedicated student of Sacred Religious
Art, Hermes apprenticed many years in the studio of one of
Mexico' s most talented Masters: Don Genaro. To this day, Hermes
remains passionate in his creation and restoration of religious
artifacts and saints in his own studio. Hermes has been a
dedicated Special Education Art teacher for the past 20 years in
the city of Comonfort, México, just outside of San Miguel. Both
Hermes and the Arroyo family are major participants in the
secular and religious festivals of San Miguel de Allende. They
are often invited to other Mexican cities along with the
mojigangas to showcase Mexican Pride of this traditional folk
art form. The Arroyo sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and
grandchildren are also an integral part of the talent pool in
the studio. Hermes is deeply engaged in preserving the
traditional core artistry of the mojigangas while developing its
expansive potential as an artistic genre. |
